beer and fatCorkquiz.com recently ran a sobering (probably the wrong word) piece about calories and wine.  Have to say we were surprised to learn that ounce for ounce wine contains more calories than most of the beverages we drink, including BEER!  In fact a 5 oz glass of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, according to their research, contains more than twice as many calories as the same serving of beer. 

They also showed a cool formula you can use to figure out how many calories are in your favorite glass of wine, which we have reproduced here:

                    Glass size in ounces X 30 X alcohol % X 7 = alcohol calories
              Glass size in ounces X 30 X residual sugar % X 4 = sugar calories
                              Alcohol calories + sugar calories = Total calories

There’s a table in the article that lets you guesstimate the percentage of residual sugar, depending on the wine type.
